Look for Dalmatian seafood, regional meat dishes, olive oil and wine when exploring food in Split. These are regional traditions, not an exclusive list of dishes invented within the city. The Split tourism board describes seafood restaurants and konoba-style taverns alongside contemporary and international dining. The useful choice is which part of that food culture you want the meal to introduce. (Split tourism restaurant guide, checked 2026-09-29)

Pašticada is a stewed beef dish often served with gnocchi, while fish, shellfish, squid and octopus appear throughout coastal Dalmatian cooking. The Croatian tourism board describes those foods across the region and notes the importance of olive oil and vegetables. Choose a seafood meal or a substantial meat dish rather than assuming every restaurant serves the same traditional collection. A regional description does not guarantee that one named plate is on tonight's menu. (Croatian tourism food guide, checked 2026-09-29)

Within the shortlist, Uje offers Dalmatian restaurant dining with separate olive-oil and wine experiences. Adriatic offers Mediterranean seafood and meat choices in a sea-facing setting. Fig provides a contemporary menu with international influences and breakfast options. Portofino adds a courtyard restaurant choice with Dalmatian antipasti, pasta and seafood on separate lunch and dinner menus. Those are different roles for a food day, not four interchangeable traditional taverns.

Select one substantial restaurant meal and a smaller or different food experience if time permits. A tasting can let you focus on olive oil, while breakfast or lunch can fit between other parts of the visit. Let appetite and the actual menu guide the order rather than treating the regional food names as a checklist that every table must complete.

Three venues in this shortlist fit an old-city route: Uje on Dominisova, Fig on Dioklecijanova and Portofino on Poljana Grgura Ninskog. Adriatic is at Sustipanski put 2, in a sea-facing location near Sustipan and the marina. Put those addresses into the route before booking. A broad Split label does not mean every restaurant is inside the palace area or equally convenient from your accommodation. (Uje, checked 2026-09-29, Adriatic, checked 2026-09-29)

For a palace visit, choose whether the food stop is a full meal, breakfast or a separately arranged tasting. Fig's breakfast menu serves a different purpose from a longer dinner, while Uje's tasting reservations should be chosen as their own experience. If the day already has several appointments, avoid making a lengthy restaurant visit the final flexible item that absorbs every delay. (Fig Split, checked 2026-09-29)

Adriatic can be the reason for a separate seaside meal. Request the intended seating and confirm its availability instead of treating a terrace table as part of every reservation. Compare the route with what you will do before and after eating; no exact walk or transport duration is recorded here. Portofino sits just off Peristil, so a pasta meal there fits a different setting from the seaside restaurant. Choose the sitting and dishes that suit the route rather than adding a second full meal simply to compare locations.

Dalmatian food also extends to islands and other towns, but those are separate outings. A restaurant on Hvar, Brač or Vis is not a central Split dinner, and Trogir is another town rather than another palace street. This shortlist includes only Split venues. Arrange any island or regional trip around its actual journey and return, then choose the food stop on that itinerary. A regional ingredient name does not establish where the restaurant itself is located.

Uje Oil Bar is at Dominisova 3, 21000 Split, inside Diocletian's Palace. The operator describes Dalmatian comfort food, seafood, olive oil and wine, with separate bookings for a restaurant table, olive-oil tasting, wine tasting and chef's table. Choose the experience before arranging the visit. Named current restaurant plates are not recorded in the accessible operator text, so ask about the menu rather than copying a visitor's order. (Uje, checked 2026-09-29)

Fig Split is at Dioklecijanova 1. Its branch menu separates breakfast from lunch and dinner and lists Spicy Eggs, Chimichurri Potatoes and Fig and Farm Cheese Flatbread. Use the selected Split page when choosing a meal; another Fig location is not evidence for this branch's service or plate. Discuss any optional dietary modification with the staff before ordering. (Fig Split, checked 2026-09-29)

Restaurant Adriatic is at Sustipanski put 2, 21000 Split. The operator describes a sea-facing Mediterranean restaurant and lists Dalmatian-style octopus, green Adriatic risotto and chocolate soufflé. Ask about the day's fish selection if seafood is the focus. A requested terrace table depends on availability, so confirm the intended sitting and seating before building an occasion around it. (Adriatic, checked 2026-09-29)

Portofino is at Poljana Grgura Ninskog 7, 21000 Split, just off Peristil Square. Its 2026 operator menu separates lunch and dinner, with Dalmatian antipasti and ricotta-and-spinach ravioli on both lists. Lunch also offers cuttlefish-and-leek risotto and grilled octopus. Choose it for a courtyard restaurant meal focused on pasta, seafood or steak; request the intended seating rather than assuming an outdoor table is included. Read the menu for your sitting before deciding on courses. (Portofino, checked 2026-09-29, Portofino 2026 menu, checked 2026-09-29)

Choose the experience before adding dishes

  • Choose the Fig menu for the meal period; breakfast is listed until noon.

At Uje, distinguish a restaurant meal from an olive-oil tasting, wine tasting or chef's table. The operator has separate reservation routes for those experiences, so ask what your booking includes rather than assuming a restaurant table automatically brings a tasting. If oil is the main interest, arrange that focused experience and discuss any accompanying food. (Uje, checked 2026-09-29)

At Fig, read the meal-period heading before selecting a dish. The operator lists breakfast until noon and lunch and dinner from noon, so breakfast eggs should not be treated as a guaranteed evening option. Choose a sweet or savoury breakfast according to appetite, then decide whether the next planned meal leaves room for another substantial order. Its menu uses several optional dietary markers, which require a conversation about the version you want. (Fig Split, checked 2026-09-29)

At Adriatic, ask about the daily fish, portion and preparation before committing to a shared seafood meal. A menu category does not establish one fixed fish or quantity for every table. Explain whether the group wants individual mains or a shared plate and ask what accompaniments fit that choice. Settle the meal and seating when reserving rather than expecting staff to infer the whole occasion from the party size. (Adriatic menu, checked 2026-09-29)

At Portofino, select the lunch or dinner menu before choosing courses. A shared antipasti plate and separate pasta mains require a different order from an individual steak dinner. Ask about the portion and included sides before adding more food. (Portofino 2026 menu, checked 2026-09-29) Across the shortlist, clarify the final bill and any tasting or group conditions at the actual venue. Uje explains its own card and tipping arrangements, but one operator's statement is not a universal payment rule for every restaurant in Split.

Read the difference between a label and an optional version

Vegan

Fig's menu distinguishes vegetarian, vegan and optional versions, including dishes that can be made vegan or gluten-free. Ask for the exact version needed before ordering. Spicy Eggs is listed with optional markers and includes sour cream in the standard description, so a menu abbreviation should not become a claim that the plate already fits every restriction. The restaurant's key and complete ingredients belong together. (Fig Split, checked 2026-09-29)

The same menu lists cheese, yoghurt, nuts and other additions in several dishes. A vegetable or fruit ingredient in the title does not establish the preparation of the entire plate. Discuss toppings, sauces, sides and any change with staff. For a group sharing dishes, agree which orders can be shared by everyone and which need to remain separate before choosing the table's food.

Adriatic's operator mentions vegetarian options alongside seafood and meat, but the selected plate still needs an ingredient check. Contact the restaurant with the requirement before booking a fish-focused dinner or group occasion. Uje's focus on olive oil and vegetables in regional cooking does not establish a certified vegan or gluten-free menu, while Portofino’s lunch menu illustrates why ingredients matter: its plant-based burger includes cheddar. Ask about the complete order rather than assuming the patty establishes a vegan meal. (Adriatic, checked 2026-09-29, Uje, checked 2026-09-29)

For a mixed group, ask each diner what the operator needs to know and send those requirements before making the reservation. Explain whether it is an ingredient preference, intolerance or allergy, then request a specific answer for the actual order. If the available preparation cannot be confirmed, choose another meal plan before travelling. No halal, kosher or allergen-free certification is recorded for these four venues; their names and cuisine descriptions do not supply that evidence.

Portofino labels a pistachio-and-raspberry cake vegan on its dessert list. That identifies one dessert, not a complete vegan menu or an answer about other restrictions. Discuss the actual meal and preparation with staff before booking. (Portofino 2026 menu, checked 2026-09-29)

Avoid old reviews and mismatched meal periods

  • Do not assume a Uje table booking includes an olive-oil tasting.
Source and date: Do not assume a Uje table booking includes an olive-oil tasting.
https://www.uje-restaurant.com/ Checked 2026-09-29 Dated information; check the source before travelling

Do not choose a dish at Uje solely because it appears in a visitor review on the operator's site. Reviews and the restaurant's current menu are different evidence. The public page describes the restaurant and tasting formats, but a named plate for your date needs confirmation. At Portofino, do not assume every lunch item is a dinner item; the operator publishes distinct lists. Choose the menu for your sitting and confirm a specific plate before a dish-led visit. (Uje, checked 2026-09-29, Portofino 2026 menu, checked 2026-09-29)

Do not arrive at Fig for a late breakfast expecting the breakfast list to continue unchanged. The branch page sets breakfast until noon, with the lunch and dinner section beginning from noon. A named breakfast dish and a current afternoon meal are different orders. Check the selected menu and discuss an optional vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free version rather than treating all markers as the same thing. (Fig Split, checked 2026-09-29)

Do not assume the same daily fish or terrace table at Adriatic on every date. The operator describes a daily catch and seating subject to availability. Confirm both if they are the reason for the occasion, then allow the restaurant to explain the current options. A listed seafood category does not guarantee one species or a fixed size for your group. (Adriatic, checked 2026-09-29)

Finally, avoid making a regional food name into an unplanned island trip. Dalmatian cooking appears across towns and islands, and Trogir, Hvar, Brač and Vis need their own journey decisions. These four addresses are in Split. Select a city meal that fits your route, or arrange a separate regional outing with the return settled first. No fixed travel duration, standard meal budget or guaranteed daily dish selection is recorded here.
