It was established in 1702. It was built in the baroque architecture style. It was designed by Christian Alexander Oedtl. It carries the Listed objects in Austria heritage designation.
Palais Windisch-Grätz, also known as Palais Geymann-Windisch-Graetz, is a Baroque city palace at Renngasse 12 in Vienna’s Innere Stadt. The building was erected in 1702–1703 for Johann Carl Freiherr von Geymann, probably to designs by architect Christian Alexander Oedtl. Maria Theresia Countess of Windisch-Graetz acquired the palace in 1755, and it later became associated with Prince Alfred von Windisch-Graetz and his family. The interior was partly remodelled in 1894–1895 by architect Emil Bressler, while historic features including a grand staircase with Kaiserstein steps and richly decorated stucco remain documented. Since 1935, the property has belonged to Klosterneuburg Abbey. The palace stands near Freyung, one of Vienna’s notable historic squares, in the historic centre included within Vienna’s UNESCO World Heritage setting. Its façade and urban position make it a useful architectural stop on a walk through the first district, alongside the surrounding aristocratic palaces and historic streets. The site is a privately managed historic property rather than a conventional museum, so visitors should treat it primarily as an exterior architectural sight and confirm access before expecting to enter.
