Santi Biagio e Carlo ai Catinari, commonly called San Carlo ai Catinari, is an early-Baroque Roman Catholic church in Rome’s historic centre. It stands at Piazza Benedetto Cairoli, near Via Arenula, and is dedicated to Saints Blaise and Charles Borromeo. The church was commissioned for the Barnabite order and developed during the seventeenth century. Its interior contains several notable works, including Giovanni Lanfranco’s Annunciation, Giacinto Brandi’s Martyrdom of San Biagio, and Andrea Sacchi’s Death of Saint Anna. The apse includes a 1646 fresco by Lanfranco depicting Saint Charles welcomed into heaven. The high altar, supported by four Corinthian columns, carries Pietro da Cortona’s painting of Saint Charles processing the Holy Nail during the plague of Milan. The church’s name refers to the bowl-makers whose workshops once occupied the surrounding area. Its combination of a prominent dome, richly decorated chapels, and Roman Baroque paintings makes it a focused stop for visitors exploring Rome’s religious architecture and seventeenth-century art.
